This strange building was designed by architect Rem Koolhas and its design is so complex many say that it could not have been built until now. The building’s construction required 10,000 lbs of steel to make sure it could withstand the force of an earthquake. The structure is made up of two slanted towers which connect at the top to form the 775 foot building. The building will be the headquarters of China Central Television where more than 10,000 people will work.
The Bejing Opera House, or the “egg”, was designed by Paul Andreu and is located in the southwestern area of the forbidden city.
The National Aquatics Center in Bejing, or “The Water Cube”, was designed by the China State Construction and Engineering Corporation and the Shenzhen Design Institute after winning the competition for its design. The building’s structural design is based on the natural formation of soap bubbles.
The Bejing National Stadium (also known as the “Bird’s Nest”) will hold all of the opening and closing ceremonies as well as all track and field events.
